Passing of an old Hammers fan
|
My grandad passed away today. 88 years old. Born in 1929 in Custom House, lived in the East End until 1970 then moved out to Essex. Used to love listening to the old boy, his tales of days gone by in the East End, running out in the street to pick up the horse shit in the road for the garden! and of course West Ham. Doubt theres many of his generation left.
Up the Hammers, please win Monday!

Made me smile this thread. Lost my grandparents yonks ago but my old man went 3 and a bit years ago. Stratford born and bred, went away at 86 yo. He told some stories, they all did from that generation. I’m sure most were porkies, especially the one wher he played the part of a copper chasing someone on a horse across Wanstead Flats!! RIP and relish the tales.

RIP. You'll miss talking to him mate, hearing stories of what our country was like, when there was no mobile phones or computers facebook etc. When we had fun. If I go to a pub now and see an olden on their own I try and chat with them . Happened yesterday, got talking about the channel islands, then about the magna carta ,king johns castle ruins of odiham. I miss my dad mate. Chin up .

Not a bad innings, wurzel.
When I first started going in the 80s, there were still loads of his generation in the ground. The ones who lived through WW2 and the blitz. Absolute granite. They kept things in perspective as far as football goes, and we’re a massive part of what made me fall in love with going West Ham.
Bon voyage to the old boy.
